NCERT is an important name in the field of Indian school education. It is an autonomous organization that was established by the Indian Government in 1961. The main objective behind the creation of NCERT was to improve Indian school education.

Before the formation of NCERT, 7 different institutes work for school education. All these institutions were combined to form an organization which was named NCERT. This institute also acts as the main advisor to the Central and State governments in making new policies and plans for education.

History of NCERT

The National Council of Educational Research and Training was established by the Department of Education, Government of India on 27 July 1961, but this organization officially started functioning as an autonomous body on September 1, 1961.

The organization was formed by merging 7 central education institutions of that time.

In 1962, a scheme named National Science Talent Search Scheme (NTSS) was started which was launched on the advice of NCERT. The purpose of NTSS was to identify the brightest students of the country and help them move forward. Scholarships were also given to those students, which helped a lot in their further studies.
