Pac-Man, also known as “Puck Man”, is a classic-maze action video game created by Namco and first released in 1980. It was designed by Toru Iwatani and quickly became one of the most iconic and influential video games in history.

Gameplay

In the game, players control a yellow, circular character named Pac-Man, who must navigate a maze while eating dots (also called pellets) and avoiding four colorful ghosts (Red, Pink, Cyan, and orange).

The goal is to eat the entire maze of dots while avoiding being caught by these ghosts. Occasionally, large flashing dots, called power pellets, appear in the corners of the maze.

When Pac-Man eats a power pellet, the ghosts turn blue, and he can eat them for extra bonus points. When a ghost is eaten, its eyes return to the central box in the maze, where the ghost “reforms” and goes back to its regular behavior.

After a few seconds, the ghosts turn to their earlier color and then Pac-Man can’t eat them. Conversely, these ghosts become again powerful and start following Pac-Man, if he is caught by these non-blue ghosts he loses his life.

When the game starts you get 3 lives by default. One is used automatically by the game system as soon as the game starts. The game ends when you lose all his life.

These lives are located at the left-bottom corner of the screen and you can see the remaining lives at any time during the gameplay.

The game’s popularity led to numerous sequels, spin-offs, and adaptations on various gaming platforms over the years. Pac-Man’s distinctive design and gameplay have made it a recognizable icon in popular culture.
