Getaway Shootout

Getaway Shootout

Getaway Shootout is a strategy-based 2-player game where you race against three others to reach the getaway spot. Developed by New Eich Games (the same studio behind Rooftop Snipers and House of Hazards), this title throws strategy out the window and replaces it with frantic, two-button mayhem.

Your character moves only by jumping/flipping left or right, and the goal is to be the first of four racers to reach the extraction helicopter.

How to Play Getaway Shootout?

When you start Getaway Shootout, you can choose either single-player or 2-player mode, then press any key to jump in. Everyone begins at the same spot, but here’s the twist—you can’t walk. Every movement is a jump or a flip.

That’s where the challenge kicks in. Your character feels like they’re working against you. Land on your head and you’ll spin out. Jump too hard and you’ll overshoot the platform completely. Success isn’t about speed; it’s about learning how to control your flips, build momentum, and stick a clean landing.

With up to three other opponents (AI or friends), the screen fills with unpredictable action. You’ll lose a life if you get shot or fall off the map, and the first player to reach the getaway point three times wins.

Weapons and Power-Ups

Unlike the straightforward duels of Rooftop Snipers, Getaway Shootout gives you a wide range of weapons and items to mess with your opponents. Pistols and shotguns are the most common finds, not meant for permanent kills (since everyone respawns fast) but for knocking your rivals back, wasting their momentum, and buying yourself time.

Special power-ups spice things up even more. Teleporters can instantly pull you out of a bad position or skip over a nasty jump. Jetpacks, while tricky to handle, give you unmatched mobility if you can master them.

Since there are no class restrictions, everyone has access to the same weapons and items. At the end of the day, victory comes down to a mix of reflexes, timing, and a little bit of luck.

Characters

When you first start playing Getaway Shootout, you’ll find there are over 37 different characters in the roster. From my experience, only a handful are available at first – the standard characters like Steve and Sarah, plus one special character called Stalker that’s already unlocked.

I found myself slowly unlocking new characters as I played more matches and completed specific challenges, which actually gave me a good sense of progression over time. The locked characters gave me something to work toward beyond just winning individual matches.

The Flip-Jump

After playing for long enough, I realized the real key is mastering the fast flip-jump. Most new players make the mistake of mashing the keys, which leads to high, slow, and uncontrollable jumps. Instead of jumping straight up, you need to jump over. The technique is simple but takes practice: build speed by executing rapid, low-arc flips. You do this by quickly alternating between your Jump Left and Jump Right keys (for example, W, E, W, E). This keeps your character low to the ground, turns momentum into horizontal speed, and makes you a much harder target to hit.

The same strategy applies when you fall into the water. Never stop flipping. The rapid flip-jump is the only way to build enough velocity to launch yourself back onto the nearest platform before your opponents leave you behind.

  • House of Hazards: A party game where you race to complete chores while setting traps for your friends.
  • Rooftop Snipers: The original two-button duel that pits you against a friend in a physics-based sniper fight.
